General Questions about Counseling at Sonntags-Club

All our counseling is free of charge for you. You do not have to pay anything to talk with us.

If you want to support our work with a donation, we appreciate it a lot—but only if this is truly no problem for you.

We don’t have psychotherapists at Sonntags-Club, so we can’t provide psychotherapy ourselves. But you’re not alone—if you think therapy might help, we’re happy to talk things through with you, and help you figure out what you need. We can provide advice as you look for a therapist and show you the steps for starting therapy in Berlin. Want to know more? Take a look at our Guide for tips on finding therapy and what to do about costs.

The main difference is the goal and depth of support:

Psychotherapy is focused on treating mental health conditions and deeper emotional problems. It is provided by trained therapists and often lasts longer. Therapy can help with issues like depression, anxiety, or trauma.

Psychosocial counseling helps people with tough life situations—such as stress, conflict, or making decisions—without treating a mental illness. Counseling is solution-focused and usually shorter in duration.

In short: Therapy is for treating mental health conditions. Psychosocial counseling offers support for life’s challenges.

QUEERHOME* is a counseling center that offers advice and support for queer people in Berlin who are facing housing difficulties. We do not have our own apartments or rooms, so you cannot stay with us directly. But we’re here to help: after hearing about your situation, we can connect you with our partner organizations and support you with information and honest advice. Every situation is different, and we’ll do our best to find the right help for you.

No, you can use a one-time email address or you don’t have to give an email address at all. If you provide your email, you’ll get notifications about new messages from your counselor and invites or confirmations for appointments. If not, just log in here regularly and check your messages. The choice is yours, and we want it to feel comfortable for you.

No, Sonntags-Club is not a government institution. We are a private, non-profit association. Our work is partly funded by the Berlin Senate, and every year we report to them how we use this money. In these reports, we only give general summaries and anonymous statistics—never names or personal details. We never share your information with authorities, unless a court forces us to and appeals are fruitless. This has never happened. To protect your privacy, we only store the minimum data needed and we delete it regularly. Your confidentiality matters to us, always.

Our spaces are only partly accessible. The entrance is at ground level but has a step of 17 cm. There is a bell to the right of the door—a ramp can be placed to help with access. Inside, the café and counseling rooms are mostly easy to reach with a wheelchair, and the paths to the toilets are step-free. However, the toilets are not fully accessible and cannot be used with electric wheelchairs; the doorway is only 63 cm wide. At this time, our spaces are not accessible for people who are Deaf, blind, or Deafblind. We know this is not enough, and we’re working to improve accessibility in the future.
